It had nothing to do with lag, because everything was moving just fine. It had nothing to do with groups, because this happened in group and while solo. So it wasn't because of arrows being blocked due to terrain or invisible walls. It had nothing to do with angle, because I could be directly facing the mob while standing just a few feet away and neither of us moving, and it would happen. This and empty basic shots were too common. I could stand right on top of a mob and multishot it, and not see any procs. There is something seriously wrong with archery. I did most of my racial completionist lives were as an archer of some form, and it's never been this bad. Something is seriously wrong with archery, it's mechanics have gotten significantly worse in the past year. The last archer I played through heroic to cap was about a year ago. I just played an archer through to level 20 on hardcore. If you want very specific/strange build, then I guess you may need to lower difficulty. I do not use any ready builds, because creating own is part of fun in my case. I play ddo since 2010 and spellcasters like sorcerer/wizard/druid/favor (but not warlock - I still feel that I wasted my ddo points here when it was not free and I bought it without any promotion) are still my favorite most fun choice, while any melee is most unwanted and I would better go play other games for it. I played Torchlight and other hack and slash games since first Diablo, and in my case, there were no classes to keep me interested in longer play. I guess that Torchlight concept just had luck to match your playstyle, because I would not call it flexible, including all other hack n slash games that actually do not allow for much customization (except look in some cases).Īll is individual preference thing and from posts here you can notice that some people are satisfied with archer/cleric/wizard, while others not. Such things are possible in pnp, while on computer you are always limited by restricted fixed programmed rules/mechanics/balance/vision. I understand what you mean, but I do not recall any video game that is truly flexible and I play a lot since 90s. Thanks but no thanks, I'll stick to my repeater. Long rant, but I just dusted off my Ranger and wow was it bad. You cannot count how many enemies your shots just float over trying to use Improved Precise Shot. If you are not a small race, you might as well run around in Archer's Focus. And don't get me started on the completely idiotic stance you are in while you run with a bow in combat.įinally, something that plagues all ranged attacks, the shot angle of the projectile. This happens with all ranged attacks but seems so much worse with bows right now.Įven the changes to Manyshot are not enough to make this feel good. You fire, paralyze, tab, shoot, expect it to hit and paralyze, tab, shoot, oh wait, your last shot never showed up on the target, and the shot you just took at your 3rd target registers 2 seconds after it looked like you shot it. This makes archers that use things like Paralyzing Arrows scream at the screen, at least I do. You will be out of sync within 2 switches. And it is not hard to see! Just hold down auto attack and tab to different targets. Really, this is the big bane of this attack style. Especially since archers have so many active attacks. They probably don't happen any more often than other attack forms but when you shoot arrows at around 1 per second, they are so much more noticeable. Level 20 pure ranger, 35% attack speed, the rate of fire is abysmal. Really, it will take less than an hour to get them to quit.Įven with 3 trees dedicated to them and so many other 'if using bows' changes to abilities and feats, they are still terrible to use. If you want to dissuade someone from playing DDO, just have them play an archer.
